Chroust, Karel ; Turková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Macková, Veronika (referee)
The diploma thesis "Paid content of the Internet mutation of the sports newspaper Sport - a case study" deals with paid content on the Internet mutation of the Sports newspaper. Paid content has been booming in recent years, and more and more readers are willing to pay for quality news. The work provides a comprehensive description of the form of paid content on a narrowly specialized sports medium. The practical part consists of the main research question "What form does paid content take on a specialized medium?" In my opinion, for quality paid content, the following trinity is required to work together - content, editors, subscribers. In my thesis, I will focus on the first two areas - content and editorial. First, I will conduct a quantitative content analysis of articles that have been published in premium content. I will answer a series of secondary research questions through quantitative content analysis. This will give me enough information about the form of the content. However, since the editorial information cannot be found, I will interview them to find out what benefits this content brings them.
Challenges for alternative journalism in Indonesia: A case study of Project Multatuli
Tivany, Arzia Halida ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Němcová Tejkalová, Alice (referee)
From 1967 until 1998, Indonesia was under the New Order repressive regime where the media was heavily controlled by the state. After the reform, the tight control over media ended and media liberalization started, inciting media concentration, conglomeration, and commercialization. In this climate, alternative media in Indonesia has emerged to challenge the dominant narrative presented by mainstream media. Project Multatuli emerged in 2021 as the first membership-focused media in Indonesia, carrying the mission of the social movement, by introducing a new type of ethical and sustainable business model within the Indonesian market. The aim of this study is to investigate the challenges and strategies employed by Project Multatuli as well as to identify the main distinction compared to mainstream media outlets. Relying on 9 qualitative interviews and a focus group discussion consisting of 3 participants, Project Multatuli is found to fit the criteria of radical alternative media as well as public service media. Results show that challenges are structural, mostly due to the unprepared press infrastructure in the country and challenging market demography. Meanwhile, their strategies to overcome the challenges are what makes Project Multatuli different from mainstream media outlets. These include their...

Willingness to pay for streaming services: Evidence from the Czech Republic
Strnadová, Ivana ; Polák, Petr (advisor) ; Kučera, Adam (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the consumers' willingness to pay for subscription- based video streaming services in the Czech Republic. With the unique data collected via self-developed questionnaire both the willingness to pay and the maximum price that consumers would be willing to pay for such services is examined. Using the logistic regression, variables that have a significant effect on the probability of subscribing were identified. These include the age, education level, preference for original sound and Czech movie production, online payments, purchase of an electronic movie, number of devices used, cinema visits, favouritism of movies over TV shows, satisfaction with the content offered by common broadcasting stations and desire for spatial mobility when accessing video content. Similar results were obtained when predicting the price using OLS. Additionally a previous purchase of a physical medium and the income level were found significant. Based on demand estimation this thesis also suggests that from the provider's perspective the optimal profit maximization price for streaming services should be set in the range from 218 to 283 CZK.
